Handcrafted in our Malvern studio, this Stranger Things birthday cake features a fully edible hand-sculpted Demogorgon figure rising from the top of the cake with arms outstretched and that iconic flower-shaped head in full terrifying detail – every limb, every texture, every horrifying feature shaped entirely by hand in edible fondant. Below the Demogorgon, the cake is finished in deep red with hand-painted dark vine and shadow detailing that captures the atmosphere of the Upside Down perfectly, edible fairy lights dotted across the surface and a trapped character figure clawing desperately from the side. The whole scene is dramatic, atmospheric and extraordinarily detailed – the kind of cake that gets photographed from every angle before anyone even thinks about cutting it.
What Makes This Cake Special
At Runaway Cupcakes, we have been creating custom cakes in Melbourne since 2015, and our bakers are Royal Melbourne Show Blue Ribbon winners. A standing sculptural figure like the Demogorgon – with its complex organic form, fine surface texturing and dramatic pose – represents some of the most technically demanding work we produce. The level of detail in this cake, from the figure down to the fairy lights and vine work, is a genuine reflection of a decade of craft and skill.
